Eurovision & Armenia in 2017

A Little Background on Eurovision and Armenia’s 2017 Artist The Eurovision Song Contest hosts dozens of European countries every single year to perform and share their culture towards over a hundred million people on a single night. For some smaller countries, this is their sole chance to promote themselves to such a big audience. For Armenia, they have been participating since 2006 with over 13 different performances since then. Their top entries being in 2008 with a song called “ Qélé, qélé”  by Sirusho, a song about Armenian roots and love, and “Not Alone” by Aram MP3 in 2014 which both reached 4 th  place in their respective competitions. Armenia’s submission in 2017 was a song called “Fly with Me” by Artsvik Harutyunan, a Russian-Armenian singer and songwriter, who was 32 years old at the time of the songs release. Armenia and National Identity

A Little Background Armenia is a country in the Transcaucasia region bordered by Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey. Their main language is Armenian, and their main religion is Armenian Apostolic by 98% of their country following. Armenia has a vast history and dates to being of the oldest civilizations. Armenia has been ruled by so many separate groups of people including the Mongols, Arabs and Turks all before the 19 th century. But when World War I took place and the Young Turks began to see Armenians as a threat, they began to get deported and executed. This is when the Armenian Genocide had] started. Dating back to 1915-1916, this was the largest tragedy Armenia has been in and the effects of the genocide can still be seen today with the diaspora of the Armenian people. The number of Armenians who died from this can be totaled to between 600,000 and 1,000,000 people. Welcome to Three Minute Eurovision: Armenia!

Armenia, located south of the Caucasus Mountain range, has debuted in the Eurovision show in 2006. Throughout their many years of participation, they have reached "Top 10" many times, and even in the years 2008, Sirusho and her song "Qele, Qele" finished 4th in the Grand Final, and in 2014, Aram MP3 placed the same with his song "Not Alone". In recent years, Armenia has not placed as well as in 2018 and 2019 they made semi-finals and in 2021 they had to withdraw due to domestic issues. But following their past trends, hopefully, Armenia can make a comeback.
